Skincare Review - Eve Lom Cleansing Balm and Radiance Transforming Mask

Skincare Review - Eve Lom Cleansing Balm and Radiance Transforming Mask

“For me cleansing is the most important part of my routine, I really like a product that turns it into an experience and the Eve Lom cleanser did just that, it turned my daily double cleanse into a luxury experience.”

A few days ago Eve Lom gifted me their iconic balm cleanser* and radiance transforming mask*. I have been eyeing both of these products for such a long time! I love balm cleansers and masks aimed at brightening the skin and after seeing so many amazing reviews on this duo I knew I had to try them out for myself.

For me cleansing is the most important part of my routine, I really like a product that turns it into an experience and the Eve Lom cleanser did just that, it turned my daily double cleanse into a luxury experience.

The cleanser contains a unique blend of four aromatic plant oils that are suitable for all skin types and concerns and aim to help with cleansing, decongesting and soothing. Lets take a look at those -

Eucalyptus and Hops Oil (to help drain away toxins and tone)
Clove oil (antiseptic properties)
Egyptian Chamomile oil (to soften and soothe)
Cocoa Butter (to condition the skin)

All of these ingredients are active which means they visibly effect the appearance and feel of the skin and in addition improve it.

The texture of the balm is a thick, waxy solid that melts into your fingers and transforms to an oily liquid which is designed to be applied to dry skin and massaged into the face. It comes complete with a muslin cloth that gently exfoliates.

According to the directions on the packaging there is an exact art to the application of the cleanser and it isn’t for the faint hearted.

Step 1 - immerse your muslin cloth in hot water

Step 2 - Squeeze to remove excess and then place over the face to allow the formula to soften and for pores to open.

Step 3 - Repeat Step 1 & 2 - x3

Step 4 - the muslin should be re-immersed, folded into a square and massaged across the face using circular motions to remove all traces of make-up.

Step 5 - Finally, the cloth should be rinsed in cold water and placed over the skin to close the pores.

I really enjoyed this whole experience from the methodical approach to the general consistency, feel, and post-cleanse results, however I skipped step 5 because we all know that pores don’t actually open and close like a door, this claim could be slightly misleading to the beauty and skincare novice.

Following this relaxing, albeit slightly lengthy ritual I felt calm, the beautiful scents and textures really helped me to unwind during my routine and I was very impressed with how soft and dewy my skin looked and felt.

I don’t think this will be a daily habit for me because of the longer application time but a product I save for a Sunday when I like to indulge in my routine. I plan to continue using this for a few more weeks to see if I notice any longer term results!

Now on to the Radiance mask.

When I first opened the pot, I was quite surprised by the texture. It isn’t your typical creamy, lotion-like mask, but more of a thick balm not too dissimilar from the texture of the cleansing balm.

It is claimed to be an intensive treatment which reawakens and reveals skin that looks renewed, supple, and radiant immediately after use and contains a natural source of AHA extracted from the precious Australian caviar lime which is a gentle yet effective exfoliant that works to remove the buildup of debris and promote natural cell turnover.

As with the cleansing balm this product provided me with an experience during application and is not for the girl who likes to mask and go. The directions advise to apply and massage a generous layer to cleansed, dry skin, avoiding the eye area, Leaving on the skin for a minimum of 30 minutes, before removing with warm water. It can also be used as an overnight mask for optimal radiance.

When massaged into the skin, the masks texture warms up and transforms into a silk-like texture however the mask stays thick and a little tacky on the face and does not dry. Upon removal, the mask becomes a soothing milky rinse which easily washes away. When using the mask overnight massage it into the skin after applying so there is less residue. I also like to cover my silk pillowcase with an old pillowcase to protect any product from melting into it whilst I sleep. Other than that I do not find any issues with masking overnight! I just pull my hair back and sleep normally. If the mask feels too heavy, I blot away some excess with a tissue before hopping into bed.

Immediately after first use my skin appeared overall more plump, hydrated and definitely radiant, like an instant facial. I feel that the gentle exfoliation the mask provides really helped with my congested areas so I am excited to continue use once or twice a week and see what my results are.
